2nd Managing Committee Meeting of the Blue Peace Initiative in the Middle East

The 2nd Managing Committee Meeting of “Blue Peace in the Middle East: Regional Cooperation on Water” was held at DSİ 14th Regional Directorate (İstanbul), hosted by SUEN as the Coordination Office of the initiative.

The meeting organized in partnership with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), was attended by senior representatives from member countries Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey as well as the Consul General of Switzerland in Istanbul, SDC officials and project consultants. On the first day of the program, the projects and activities implemented under the initiative were presented in detail and necessary actions to ensure synergy among the projects were discussed. In addition, the activities to be carried out by the Policy Advisory Committee in the chairmanship of HRH Prince of Jordan Hassan Bin Talal were discussed.

On the second day of the meeting, ongoing activities coordinated by SUEN within the scope of the initiative were presented. The roadmap of the report under the theme of “agricultural water use efficiency in the Middle East” as well as capacity building and workshop programs planned to be held with the same theme was adopted by the Managing Committee. At the end of the meeting, SUEN Vice President Prof. Dr. Bülent İnanç was unanimously elected as the new Chair of the Managing Committee in place of Prof. Hasan Z. Sarikaya who with the deepest sorrow passed away on 23rd January 2020.
