Coordination Office Announces Details Of Irrigation Efficiency Training

The Blue Peace Middle East Coordination Office has details of the water use efficiency in agriculture that is to be held in Izmir, Turkey. The training course is being organised by the Turkish Water Institute (SUEN), which currently serves as the Coordination Office of the Blue Peace Middle East Regional Mechanism.

Entitled ‘Planning and design for efficient irrigation’, the course will adopt a train-the-trainers approach, combining theory, group discussions and field visits to encourage exchange of knowledge and experiences from across the region.

Blue Peace Middle East member countries Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey will each nominate four experts to participate in the training, which will address themes such as master planning of irrigation investments; design and feasibility studies for irrigation infrastructures; and governance issues.

The six-day course will include two days of field visits to Water User Associations in the region of Izmir, where participants will be able to get an insight into different operational and administrative aspects of irrigation management, and meet with different officials and farmers.

The training course will be sponsored by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation as part its support for the Blue Peace Middle East Initiative Regional Mechanism. The training has been tentatively scheduled from 15 to 19 June 2020 but may be postponed due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
